RUKWILA CUBS

July,2020 three of my friends and I planned a trip to Yala National Park. Our plan was to spend three days camping inside the park and we made a prior reservation for the “Kosgasmankada” campground. On 8th July we started our trip and ended the day with a great sighting of Lucas. There was a rumor saying that there are leopard cubs around “Rukwila” area. So, we planned our next morning game drive straight to “Rukwila”. When we arrived there, we noticed bt tyre marks one vehicle has already searched the area and left with no luck. So, we lost our excitement. When we arrived at Rukwila, our guide told me that there is a jackal drinking water. But I immediately noticed that it was leopard. Our driver stopped the vehicle. As soon as we stopped the vehicle I saw some little thing ran in to the bushes. Mom leopard kept drinking water without any hesitation. After few minutes one leopard cub aproached the mom leopard. After another few minutes, other cub joined the party. Even with our presence they settled and relaxed. Then the mom leopard started breast feeding one cub. After a while mom leopard approached the water hole again started drinking water and the cub who didn’t get breast fed also joined the mom and started drinking. After few minutes they calmly vanished into the bushes, and we had one of the best leopard sightings all to ourselves. Which is really rare in Yala.
